Arsenal vs Chelsea: Match Preview, 27th Dec 2010

After a short winter break, Chelsea head into the Arsenal match with some confidence. It is a confidence that has come about as a result of the 1-1 draw with Tottenham a fortnight ago. Carlo Ancelotti has been speaking ahead of the match that he needs to see the Didier Drogba of last season. Well, we all got a taste of what Drogba can do when he is on form against Tottenham and hadn’t he missed the penalty against Spurs, Chelsea would have won the match.

Before the game, Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the need to win the game, but with Manchester United winning last night, Chelsea must surely win the game and failure to do so will probably put Chelsea out of the title race. The biggest boost for Chelsea is that Frank Lampard is back and it has been confirmed

Kakuta Signs New Contract

Photo: Robin Parker
Gael Kakuta has signed an extension to his contract, which was due to expire this season. Kakuta has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract. He would have entered into the final six months of his contract and he would have been eligible to speak with other clubs after that. A number of clubs like AC Milan and Bayern Munich were set to be interested in him, but now Chelsea can enjoy the services of this 19-year-old French teenager for another 5 years at least. He is widely regarded to be the best talent at Chelsea, but has his talent been seen in actual games?

When Carlo Ancelotti arrived at Chelsea, he said that Gael Kakuta was the most talented teenager he had ever seen at this age. However, it seems

Lampard To Start Against Manchester United

Photo: Marc Atkins
Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Frank Lampard will be starting against Manchester United on Sunday. It was a huge sigh of relief to see Lampard back in the squad last week and to see him starting a match after three months is like signing a new £30 million player. Frank Lampard is one of those players who doesn’t get a lot of media attention, in fact, he gets a lot of negative press. However, I think that the world would have seen how we are missing Frank Lampard and his goals.

The 2-0 win against Stoke for the last match Frank Lampard started and coincidentally, it was one of his worst for Chelsea. However, Chelsea have really missed the thrust and the goals that he

Chelsea will be facing FC Copenhagen in the last 16 round of the Champions league. The draw for the knockout stages of the Champions league has just finished and looking at the whole draw, it can be easily said that Chelsea are the real winners of the draw after being paired with the Danes, who are entering into this round for the first time. It seems that Chelsea's worst run of form and luck is finally over and Chelsea fans can look forward to rejoicing once again.

Chelsea had the possibility of drawing against Inter Milan, AC Milan and Carlo Ancelotti will be quite happy with the draw. He has said

Chelsea seek to kick start season at Marseille

On the face of it Chelsea’s final Champions League group game against Marseille means nothing. Both side are already through – Chelsea as group winners – so the game is more of a formality than anything.

However, a run of just one win in six league games has seen them concede their place at the top of the Premier League table and such is their lack of confidence boss Carlo Ancelotti accused his players of being ‘scared’ in the second half draw with Everton on Saturday.

With Spurs, Arsenal and Man United lying in wait for the London club in

Preview of Chelsea v Everton at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea welcome Everton to Stamford Bridge looking to regain some of the lost glory which has seen them win only two matches in their last six in the English Premier League. Last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle left them at the 2nd position in the league table, allowing Manchester United to bypass them into the first position, two points clear of the Blues.

But, there is some good news for the home team after all. Captain John Terry and influential midfielder Michael Essien might be available for this match, if they clear a late fitness test.

Chelsea need to get back to winning ways if they wish to usurp ManUnited

Didier Drogba's Fit Again

Didier Drogba has said that he has now recovered fully from the malaria illness and is now fit and raring to go. Drogba has not scored in the league since last scoring in the match against Arsenal. It was obvious that he was clearly struggling the last few weeks, and whether it was due to the illness or due to the obvious lack of form is the question that only Carlo Ancelotti can answer. Also, only Carlo Ancelotti can answer why he decided to persist with Drogba, who was clearly suffering from one of those problems.

It is not like we have performed well with Drogba in the

Chelsea star Anelka reveals plans to quit France

In a tell-all, Nicolas Anelka opened up to Reuters and disclosed that he had made up his mind to quit playing for France after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, even before he was handed the 18-match suspension.

In a tumultuous World Cup, the Chelsea star was hit with the ban by the French Football Federation (FFF) after he allegedly insulted manager Raymond Domenech during half time of their group match against Mexico, which eventually ended in a 2-0 defeat for France. After that match, the French players refused to train with the
