Chelsea have allowed Gael Kakuta and Patrick van Aanholt to leave Stamford Bridge, albeit on a loan deal. Kakuta will be joining Fulham till the end of the season, while Patrick van Aanholt will be joining Sven Goran Eriksson and Leicester City also till the end of the season. This news certainly does not come as a surprise in the case of Gael Kakuta, who has been extremely disappointing ever since players and the manager hyped him. For Patrick van Aanholt, though, it is merely a case of not getting enough chances mainly because of the presence of the world’s best left back, Ashley Cole.

Even though it will certainly not influence the squad too much as both of them have made very few appearances for the first team, it will leave Carlo Ancelotti with a seriously limited squad. There is an assumption that Chelsea would have put some kind of clause into the conditions of the loan that would enable them to return to Chelsea on insisting. Even though
Ashley Cole is the world’s best left back, he is also the only fit left-back at the club after Yuri Zhirkov is yet to recover from his injury. So, letting Van Aanholt go looks a bit strange after he didn’t fare too bad in the handful of appearances he has made so far.

The departure of Kakuta and van Aanholt leaves 17-year-old Josh McEachran and 19-year-old Jeffrey Bruma as the next young hopefuls at Chelsea.
