Carlo Ancelotti has said in a statement that he would rather take Wayne Rooney over Lionel Messi if it comes to the dream transfer next season. Is it the actual thoughts of Ancelotti himself or is it just mind games ahead of the crunch tie between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford? There can be no doubt that Wayne Rooney is a quality player and he has gone on to set new records every single season. However, is he actually better than Messi, who has won the World Player of the Year Award?
The simple and straightforward answer might seem no, but the closer you analyse, the closer you come to the feeling that Rooney will be more suited to Chelsea rather than Messi. Rooney has been a Premier League player, while Messi with his small figure will take some time getting used to the physicality of the English League. If you take the probability of Chelsea signing either one of these next season, it would be almost negligible. However, we could at least be in with a chance of signing a player, who resembles Rooney very much, Carlos Tevez.
There have been reports that Chelsea could be involved in a swap deal with Manchester City, which could see Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez heading in opposite directions. Of course, it will certainly involve a hefty fee on the part of Chelsea given that Didier Drogba is 33 years old, while Tevez has a lot of years ahead of him. If this move actually happens, then it could at least solve Ancelotti’s major problem, deciding Chelsea’s strike partnership. Tevez is more of a player who is willing to sacrifice for the good of the team, while the same cannot be said of Drogba at all times.
Even if Drogba does not move to Manchester City, then a move to the United States could well be on the cards. Either way, this summer is going to be extremely important for the big Ivorian.
