The League Cup is probably the least desirable trophy for top clubs partly because of its prestige and prize money involved. Mourinho, though, has been different in his approach to this trophy. According to him, it is a trophy at the end of the day and winning it infuses a winning mentality. It is not surprising that Mourinho’s incredible haul of trophies began with the League Cup in 2005.
In his second spell, Mourinho’s Chelsea will travel to League One Swindon Town in the third round of the Capital One Cup. This is a very difficult match indeed and I’d suggest that all those Chelsea haters, who go on about the easy home draws we get, make a note of it.
The match will be played on 24-25 September.
Swindon may have played four matches and taken just one win from them, but they are anything other than easy opposition.
The standout fixture of this third round draw has to be Manchester United v Liverpool.
