EA Sports FIFA has always been the benchmark when it comes to football games. Their latest edition, FIFA 14, is set to hit the stores on September 27. EA Sports is one of the official partners of Chelsea FC. Thanks to the millions spent by Roman Abramovich in the last few seasons, Chelsea have one of the strongest squads in Europe. I would go as far as saying that this Chelsea squad is on par with the title winning teams of 2004 and 2005.
It got me wondering; who are the Chelsea players in the top 50 of FIFA 14’s player ratings?

19. Juan Mata 87
36. Ashley Cole 85
38. Petr Cech 85
46. Eden Hazard 85
It is nice to see Mata in the top 20, but it is surprising to see David Silva rated at No.12. Silva has had one good season with Manchester City, while Mata has been Chelsea’s outstanding player in the last two seasons. He has been integral in our Champions League and Europa League success.
Bayern Munich full-back Philipp Lahm is at No.14 with a rating of 87. Is he that is good when compared with Cole? I fear not. Lahm is on par with Cole in attack, but he is nowhere near good enough as the Englishman in defence.
Cech may be at No.38, but he is almost on par with the other best goalkeepers like Gianluigi Buffon and Iker Casillas.
Surprising omissions are Fernando Torres (given his recent form), Frank Lampard (probably due to his age), and John Terry (because of last season’s form).
