Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata scored to give Chelsea a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Capital One Cup. The victory sends the blues into the quarter-finals of the competition, while also maintaining José Mourinho’s unbeaten record over Arsene Wenger in all competitions. Azpilicueta pounced on a mistake by Carl Jenkinson to score in the 25th minute, while Mata secured the game for Chelsea with a wonderful right foot strike in the 66th minute.
Chelsea’s ‘weakened team’ looked excellent in all areas of the pitch. Arsenal were distinctly weaker with the presence of youngsters like Miyaichi and the out of sorts Bendtner. Still, it was an impressive win nonetheless. Chelsea’s next match will be against Newcastle United in the league.
