Jose Mourinho has ruled out the possibility of buying a striker in January amidst a lot of speculation that Chelsea have met with the agent of FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez. The striker could cost Chelsea around £33 million, but Mourinho says that the club will end the season with the current crop of strikers.
There has been intense speculation that Demba Ba could be sold after making just two starts up until now. The form of Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o has also not been convincing, while many Chelsea fans still wonder why Romelu Lukaku is playing for Everton.
Chelsea face Southampton on Sunday, and Mourinho talked about Chelsea’s January transfer activity in the pre-match press conference. He said:
It’s not true what I read a couple of days ago, that his [Martinez’s] agent was in London meeting with me.
In the January market we are not going to buy any strikers.
We are going to the end of the season with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba. No one is coming in, no one is going out.
It should be remembered that Mourinho said that Rooney was the only transfer target in the summer only to go out and sign Samuel Eto’o. He has also stated that managers are never happy with what they have and are constantly looking to improve the squad.
Do not rule out Chelsea buying a striker until the transfer window shuts.
