Guillem Balague: Man Utd set to sign £37m-rated Juan Mata

Juan Mata Oscar No 10 Mourinho

Juan Mata appears to have played his final game for Chelsea after talks are ongoing with Manchester United over a proposed £35 million move to Old Trafford. Mata has been involved in a battle with Jose Mourinho since the start of the season.

There have been rumours about a possible bid from United for Mata, but few could have imagined the situation escalating as it has done in the last few days.

Undoubtedly one of the finest players in the squad, it would be a shame to see Mata play for United. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague says that it is only a matter of time before a deal is reached. The impasse right now is due to Chelsea’s desire to include Wayne Rooney as part of the deal. According to Sky Sports, he said:

“Manchester United and Chelsea are negotiating the future of Juan Mata – and the idea is that Mata, who Chelsea are happy to let go, goes to Old Trafford in this transfer window.

“Chelsea are asking for €40 million or with Wayne Rooney as part of the deal. Manchester United have said no to the money and no to Rooney – but I am under the impression that a deal will be reached because it benefits everybody.

“Manchester United need quality, Mata needs to get out of the situation he is in, and it would reinforce United for their meetings with (Chelsea’s title rivals) Manchester City and Arsenal, which is clever from Jose Mourinho.”

Balague is well-connected with Spanish players and he has got it correct with many deals (involving Spanish players) in the past. One of his recent predictions was United’s failed attempts to sign Fabregas.

Of course, it is still possible for the negotiations to fall through just as it did for Chelsea in the Rooney transfer saga. Mata has been a great professional, and it would be great if he was to go somewhere like Paris St Germain. That way, Chelsea fans may not be reminded constantly about the fantastic player that we sold for peanuts.

  1. Jose mourinho should used juan mata for swap for man u. it will easy to sign wayne rooney.

  2. If mata go,all chelsea fans will regret it ooooooo

  3. Dont let him go because i love mata

  4. Mou’s mind is undisclosed but it is evident to all that Mata want to have a steady playing time and has no other choice than to leave Chelsea if that is the only avenue of a guaranteed playing time. I honestly don’t want Mata to go but the competition for shirts(most especially in Spain’s national team) is getting tight and i want him to feature in the squad going to Brazil. So if leaving Chelsea is the best way to get a chance of being called up into the team, Farewell then! But if we are to sell him to Man U, it should be on no other basis than a SWAP DEAL of Rooney.

  5. Mata must not go

  6. My advice to jose mourhino is that he shldnt sell mata @ all to manchester united nor athletico madrid simply because he’s a very good player and if jose needs to sell him @ all cost to manchester united he should make sure that wayne ronney is part of that deal and if it is athletico madrid then diego costa must also be part of the deal and left to me,I will prefer athletico madrid simply because united is our rival so mata would surely hurt us in the nearest future…..jose mourhino should use his discretion.

  7. Moyes united needs player like mata please make a possible move to land him..

  8. The smart choice is to Exchange Rooney & Mata
Mata used to be good but now he is not good enough 4 being
a first choice. we have Osscar. Harshar, Willium nMatic

  9. Man u shld buy defenders also n mata wil shine @ al cost in man u

  10. Man u should nt swap rooney cus if dy do so it will be a pain full regret 2 man u. man u should buy players and stop keeping momey, man u buy players 4 feature purpose.

  11. mata should go because he need more playing time
