Hat-trick hero Samuel Eto’o silent on his Chelsea future

Chelsea Samuel Eto'o 2014

Chelsea’s hat-trick hero against Manchester United, Samuel Eto’o says that his future still remains unclear, as he enters into the last few months of his contract. The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star was signed only on a one-year deal and it is set to expire in the summer.

He has chosen to remain noncommittal about his future plans by saying that he is only concentrating on enjoying his time at Chelsea. According to Sky Sports, he said:

At the moment, it’s one season and I intend to enjoy it, then we’ll see.

Eto’o may have cost less than £5 million in transfer fees, but his yearly wages are believed to be in excess of £7 million. This appeared to be a burden on the club a few weeks ago, but after eight goals in 17 appearances (including five assists), he appears to have done rather well.

His goals against Liverpool and Manchester United have helped us take six massive points at home and this could very well be the difference between winning or losing the title.

It appears that Eto’o is just warming the seat for Lukaku next season, as there has been little talk about a new deal for the Cameroon international.

A couple of clubs from the MLS are interested in taking him to North America, but he has now spoken of his interest to play for Mallorca once again. Eto’o made his name at Mallorca before moving to Barcelona and becoming a world-class striker. He continued:

My son has pressured me to finish (my career) there. My son is from Mallorca.

I’ll always like Barca, but I prefer Mallorca.

I miss everything from there. I miss my team-mates, my friends, Barcelona, the weather, the ham, everything…

There is no doubt that Eto’o is not as sharp as he once was, but he is still a very good player. He can still do it against the top teams and he showed that on Sunday.

As he plans to enjoy himself for the next few months, it is time for Chelsea fans to do the same and see a top, top player in action.
