Roberto di Matteo wrote himself in Chelsea’s history as a player and he did so again as a manager in 2012. He helped Chelsea achieve the ultimate dream of winning the Champions League. Even though he did not last much longer, he forever remains in the hearts of all Chelsea fans.
The reason behind Roman Abramovich’s decision to sack di Matteo just a few months after this ultimate success remains mystery. Admittedly, the team was not doing great, but it was not bad – apart from a poor Champions League group stage – to get the sacking either.
Reports state that the Italian is still being paid by Chelsea, as his contract runs out only this summer. He talks about various issues like his sacking, trying to revitalise an ageing team, and the experience he gained from the incredible year.
