Oscar has been spoken of as a potential Paris St Germain target in the last few weeks. The 22-year-old has done little to quash the speculation by admitting that he has spoken with his Brazilian counterparts at PSG about a possible move. This is a stunning statement from a player who has a contract until 2017. He may have stated later that he’s happy at Chelsea, but the harm has already been done.
Big spending PSG have been threatening to take away several Chelsea stars in the last few weeks. Eden Hazard and David Luiz are some of the other players linked with PSG. Despite his poor performances of late, Oscar has been one of the best players this season. He said:
“I’m flattered PSG are thinking about me, but I’m happy at Chelsea. Paris are a big club, but I’m happy here.
“Lucas, Thiago Silva and I spoke about it a little bit when we met in the Champions League, but there is nothing certain. They know that I’m good at Chelsea.” (TF1)
PSG will have little trouble meeting a potential £40-50 million in transfer fees and more than £200,000 in wages. Chelsea are no longer that club due to the FFP regulations. Oscar came to Stamford Bridge in a £25 million deal two years ago. His first season was a hit and miss. It is only this season that he has started to deliver on a consistent basis, but Chelsea fans will be disappointed with his decision to even talk about a move.
At 22, he should concentrate on becoming a great player rather than the millions he could pocket (and one can only be interested in PSG for the millions – at this stage).
Jose Mourinho sold Juan Mata in January since he ‘favoured’ Oscar, but it would be interesting to know what the Portuguese thinks right now.
