Chelsea Given Hope in the Race to Sign World Cup Winner

Chelsea have received a boost in the race to sign Sami Khedira after the player’s agent revealed that Khedira is not close to joining Arsenal. The gunners reportedly were in pole position to sign the 27-year-old German international, but it now appears that those reports may have been false.

His agent, Jorg Neubauer, confirmed that his client has not agreed terms with any club so far. He said:

“We are not in talks with Arsenal. I don’t think a fee can have been agreed, otherwise I would have been told.

“When a club have an interest I am sure they will call me and we will speak about things. The same goes for Chelsea.”

Khedira will cost in the region of £20 million and it has been rumoured that Arsenal had reached an agreement with Madrid. It would have been a major blow to Jose Mourinho, who would love to be reunited with Khedira.

Mourinho was the manager who brought Khedira to Madrid. The player has only 12 months left on his contract, while he could command around £150,000 per week in wages. Soccer sports betting info places Chelsea at 5/2 to sign the German.

Even though the blues have signed Cesc Fabregas, he is not a like-for-like replacement for Frank Lampard. Lampard is the kind of player who will be able to shine in any system. Khedira is probably the closest Chelsea can get to Lampard right now. At just £20 million, he represents a great value.

Khedira recently won the Champions League with Real Madrid and went on to win the World Cup with Germany.
