Chelsea have been switching their attention from one forward to the another in the last few weeks. After being linked heavily with the likes of Edin Dzeko, it appears that the blues are also monitoring Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud. It is no secret that Arsenal are trying to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for a whopping £60 million. This would open up the door for Giroud to leave Arsenal. The Frenchman is a competent striker, and it is not a surprise that Chelsea are monitoring his situation.
Giroud has been at Arsenal since 2012. An experienced Premier League campaigner, Giroud may be a great backup for Alvaro Morata and can also lead the line on his own. At 31 years of age, he still has a couple of years of football left in him at the very top level. In the past, Chelsea’s January signings have been rather successful. The likes of Nicolas Anelka, Branislav Ivanovic and many more have been brought to the club in the winter transfer window.
The top sportsbook and thecasinowire choices out there do not expect Chelsea to come close to challenging for the title. Manchester City have been odds-on favourite since the start of the season, but Chelsea can aim for the Champions League with a strong squad.
Since the signing of Alexandre Lacazette, Olivier Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal. He has started only one Premier League match this season, but his return of four goals is quite decent. Last season, the striker had a much bigger role to play in the team and came up with 12 goals his 29 league games – only 11 of them as a starter.
Michy Batshuayi has been widely linked with a loan move to Spanish football, as Antonio Conte simply does not see him as a player capable of stepping up to Chelsea’s quality – even if the Belgian international has come with a decent return of goals whenever called upon. The lack of threat up front has resulted in Chelsea dropping significantly away from the title race. The Belgian has come up with two goals while starting only three league matches this season. His return of a goal every 150 minutes of action has not been helped by his lack of regular time on the pitch.
Olivier Giroud will be allowed to leave Arsenal only if the club sign a replacement, while there should not be any issues in a transfer between Arsenal and Chelsea despite the rivalry. In the recent past, there have been several transfers between north and west London.
