Yossi Benayoun has become Chelsea’s first signing of the summer. The 30 year old Israeli is signed from Liverpool for a fee believed to be around £5.5 million which represents an incredible value for money as he is a player who is similar to Joe Cole, only cheaper. After linked with players costing above £50 million, it is a bit of an anti-climax to start with.
‘I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful,’
said the Israeli international, who has signed a
three-year contract.
Ancelotti said,
‘We are happy to have this new player. Yossi has a lot of quality in midfield and can play in lots of positions. I like his behaviour on the pitch and he will do a great job for us next season.’
He is a like for like replacement for Cole and fans can expect him to perform well against lesser teams which pack defences. He is not a prolific goal scorer but is not too bad either.
Benayoun has not won a league title in England and will be hoping that he can add it in what is expected to be a short Chelsea career.
