Chelsea have suffered the second pre-season defeat at the hands of AC Milan after losing the final match of the US 2012 pre-season tour 1-0. This match sums up the negative aspects of Chelsea in the pre-season tour, with only a few bright spots in the match like Eden Hazard.
The disappointing aspect of this defeat was the fact that we were playing against an AC Milan team that was without many stars like Clarence Seedorf, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Thiago Silva.
“It is always better to win, it gives you a good feeling, so we are disappointed with the result but I thought there was a big improvement from Wednesday’s game.
We get into good positions in the last 20 to 25 yards but we are missing a little bit the cutting edge in those areas, and Fernando Torres only played his first 30 minutes today, plus we are integrating new players – but we had a lot of good possession and good combinations. The final pass was a little bit missing today and in front of the goal we need to be a bit more clinical at times.
I thought Hazard was interesting on the left and he looked a big threat but the organisation today was very good”
said the manager Roberto di Matteo after the match.
Chelsea will be heading back to the UK now. Our next friendly match will be against Brighton and Hove Albion on 4th August. Then it is straight back into the new season as we take on Manchester City at Villa Park for the FA Community Shield on August 12. Chelsea do need to win the Brighton match in order to carry some confidence into the Community Shield.
