Despite boasting more than eight players who can play behind the striker, Chelsea’s interest in the ‘number 10’ type player does not appear to have diminished. Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Schalke’s Max Meyer, who was involved in both matches against us in the Champions League.
According to the Express, Schalke’s sporting director Horst Heldt told Kicker magazine:
“There has been no official offer from Chelsea. But I have heard about their interest.”
Meyer has three goals in 12 matches, which is not great, for Schalke this season. Half of his appearances have come as a substitute. He did start against Chelsea in the first match, but he was substituted with 12 minutes remaining. He came on as a substitute at Stamford Bridge.
As you would expect from a player of a losing team, Meyer did not attract much attention for his performances.
Chelsea seemed quite keen on Julian Draxler, who was impressive, but it seems that the targets have been altered.
At 18 years of age, Meyer can improve a lot, but if he comes to Chelsea now, he will perhaps be loaned to a club in Holland.
Meyer, though, is hoping to sign a new contract at Schalke. He said:
“I’m glad that I’m so popular, but I feel very comfortable here.
“I hope that an agreement can be reached. I think it will happen this year.”
This appears to be a transfer that may not happen in the near future simply because Chelsea do not need such a player.
