Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation continues to be talking point, as both Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois target a first-team spot. According to reports, Courtois is confident that Jose Mourinho will start with him in Chelsea’s match against Burnley.
The start of the new Premier League season is only a fortnight away. Chelsea’s pre-season matches have just come to an end with a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Werder Bremen.
The match saw Courtois make his debut in Chelsea colours. A 3-0 defeat usually asks questions of the goalkeeper, but Courtois was good throughout the encounter. Mourinho is unlikely to pay too much attention to the Belgian’s form given that two of the goals scored were from the penalty spot.
Courtois stated clearly at the time of returning to Chelsea that he was not ready to settle for a place on the bench. Petr Cech has also been making the right noises. The Czech Republic stopper, though, has been linked with Monaco in the last few weeks.
After failing to sign Victor Valdes on a free transfer, cash rich Monaco may see Cech as an excellent option. They are one of the few clubs that can afford the 31-year-old’s transfer fees and his wages.
Our third choice goalkeeper Henrique Hilario recently announced his retirement. This effectively makes Mark Schwarzer as the third choice should Cech stay. Paris St Germain have also been linked with Cech in the last few days. Since coming to Stamford Bridge in 2004, Cech’s position has not been challenged. He is close to making 500 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
Yes,when the season start we can now be comparing them.then we thank god they were together now,so we shall know the different.
D. Costa and D. Drogba combine matches will be more interesting along with stopper T. Courtois
