Chelsea will be without eight players ahead of Sunday afternoon’s trip to Goodison Park to face Everton. The Blues will be desperate to turn things around after a recent defeat but won’t have a full-strength side.
An official injury update was published on the Blues’ official website that reveals a long list of absentees. Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Malo Gusto, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka and Christopher Nkunku are sidelined. Noni Madueke was a doubt too.
What’s the latest from Chelsea?
Chilwell is ‘continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme’ after a thigh injury and isn’t expected back until 2024. Fofana is ‘continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme’ after knee injury that’s kept his out all season. He will be a long-term absentee and may not return before the campaign is up.
Chalobah is ‘continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme’ after suffering a setback from a thigh injury in October. Gusto is ‘starting the reconditioning phase of his rehabilitation’ after suffering a knee ligament injury. He’s being given a late fitness test ahead of Sunday’s game.
Lavia is ‘progressing with the reconditioning phase of his rehabilitation’ after suffering a setback from an ankle injury. He is nearing a return, but it may take another week before he’s in the matchday squad. Ugochukwu is ‘continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme’ after a minor injury. He is nearing a return as his condition isn’t believed to be serious.
Chukwuemeka is ‘continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme’ after suffering a setback from a knee injury. He was recently pictured back in the gym, so he’s getting closer to returning. Nkunku is ‘progressing with the reconditioning phase of his rehabilitation’ after a long-term knee injury and could return soon. He was meant to have played by now, but Chelsea aren’t rushing him back.
Madueke was an injury doubt for the Everton clash, but his name has been removed from the list.
