Chelsea have confirmed they will be without seven players for their Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace. Not only is their goalkeeper sidelined, Chelsea are without two centre-backs, two fullbacks and two central midfielders.
Mauricio Pochettino had an injury crisis upon his arrival as manager and continues to have no luck months later. Pochettino hasn’t had the luxury of naming a full-strength side without niggles, which is likely the cause of their inconsistency.
Chelsea said on their official website that Robert Sanchez was in partial team training for reconditioning phase after a knee injury. His last appearance was in the Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Everton on December 10. Premier League injuries believe he could return later this month.
Benoit Badiashile is reportedly undergoing medical assessment on a groin injury. The 22-year-old last featured in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa on February 7. He might be back in March.
Marc Cucurella is continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme after an ankle injury that required surgery in December. The 25-year-old could also return in March.
Wesley Fofana is also continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme after his long-term knee injury. He returned to light training at the end of 2023, but may not be back before the season ends.
Reece James is another player who is continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme after a hamstring injury in December. He’s had no luck with injuries, spending most of the campaign on the treatment table. The 24-year-old may be out until April.
Romeo Lavia is continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme after suffering an injury setback upon his long-awaited return. The 20-year-old has made just one appearance this season, spending most of his debut campaign on the sidelines. His return may be a few weeks away.
Lesley Ugochukwu is continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme after suffering a hamstring injury in December. The 19-year-old has made just one appearance since November due to various injuries.
