Chelsea travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday evening. The two sides are due lock horns in the EFL Cup final next month, so next week’s clash is a preview of things to come.
Liverpool are favourites to pick up all three points at home on Wednesday given Chelsea’s awful away form. The Blues have managed only one win on the road since November, so the odds are against them.
Chelsea playing well but only at home
Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League with 31 points from 21 games. They could leapfrog Manchester United (9th with 32 points), Brighton & Hove Albion (8th with 32 points) and Newcastle United (7th with 32 points) with a win.
The Blues have won four of their last five ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Liverpool, but that’s mostly at home. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have lost four of their last five away games in the league, shipping 12 goals in total.
Chelsea are vulnerable on the road, and matters aren’t helped with how invincible Liverpool are on Merseyside.
Liverpool are terrifying at Anfield
Liverpool are top of the Premier League table with 48 points from 21 games. The Reds could go five points clear with a win, as they have a game in hand on Arsenal.
Liverpool have suffered only one defeat this season and boast the best defensive record (18). Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten in their last 14 league games and have only dropped four points at home.
The Reds haven’t lost a league game at Anfield and face a Chelsea side who get battered on the road. That being said, Chelsea have taken points off the Merseysiders in past meetings, drawing their last three head-to-heads.
Pochettino’s side held Liverpool in August’s meeting at Stamford Bridge. They played out a goalless draw when the two sides last met at Anfield too. Chelsea would certainly take a point on Wednesday, however.
