Chelsea welcome Burnley to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon and are big favourites to win. The Blues are in good form of late, boasting a four-game unbeaten run ahead of their clash.
Burnley are struggling and risk losing ground in the race for survival if they can’t get a result. The Clarets did win their last game but had been on a long losing run previously.
A win for Chelsea could see them move into the top half of the Premier League table. A win for Burnley could see them go two points from safety. Defeat could see them fall eight points adrift.
Chelsea have been solid at home
Chelsea are 11th with 39 points from 27 games, boasting two wins and two draws from their last four. Despite inconsistency throughout the campaign, the Blues have been formidable at Stamford Bridge in recent months. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won five of their last six home games, scoring 13 goals, so they’ll be confident.
Chelsea have taken points off Arsenal and Manchester City with home advantage, so Burnley shouldn’t present a challenge. That being said, Pochettino will remind his side that they’ve lost to Aston Villa, Wolves and Brentford at the Bridge.
Chelsea have lost only one league game at home since October, so they play better in front of their supporters. And with Burnley’s form so contrasting on the road, they will be scared coming to West London.
Burnley’s away form has been miserable
Vincent Kompany’s men aren’t in great shape home or away. The Clarets are 19th in the league, closer to the foot of the table than 18th. Burnley have won one and drawn one of their last two, but their previous form was worrying. The Clarets went 10 games without a win, and their away form is even worse.
Burnley have picked up only nine points from a possible 42 on the road this season, averaging two conceded goals-per-game. They have lost four and drawn one of their last five, so they are underdogs at the Bridge.
Chelsea thrashed Burnley 4-1 in October’s Premier League meeting, but can they repeat the feat?
