Chelsea have long shown an interest in Viktor Gyokeres and Record say they recently sent scouts to watch him again.
The 25-year-old has been in fantastic form at Sporting this season, resulting in him attracting the attention of European giants.
Chelsea need another prolific striker
Chelsea loaned Armando Broja to Fulham in the January transfer window, leaving them with only Nicolas Jackson up front. Mauricio Pochettino has Christopher Nkunku and Raheem Sterling who can operate in a makeshift role, but he wants a striker.
Jackson has 12 goals from 32 games in his debut season at Stamford Bridge but has struggled for consistency. The 22-year-old has netted in his last two Premier League games, but he previously went three months without scoring.
Jackson has only bagged three goals since November 2023, so it’s easy to see why Chelsea want an upgrade. They’ve shown an interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, but Gyokeres is also on their radar. The Swedish international has 36 goals in all competitions this season and has been scouted by Chelsea three times.
Could Gyokeres leave this summer?
Gyokeres only joined Sporting in July 2023, making the move from Coventry City for €24m (£20.7m). The 24-year-old is having a fantastic debut campaign in Portugal but is open to leaving. His departure would land Sporting a considerable windfall, with A Bola (h/t World Soccer Talk) revealing a £112m release clause.
Gyokeres was at Coventry in the Championship less than a year ago but has elite European sides showing an interest. Arsenal have been linked with the prolific centre-forward and may be able to beat Chelsea to his signature. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Gyokeres too, however, so there may be a battle this summer.
Unnamed top sides in Spain and Italy have also been credited with an interest, so Chelsea need to act fast. With how poorly Pochettino’s side are faring in the Premier League, they’re not an attractive destination right now.
