Conor Gallagher has an uncertain future at Chelsea with his contract winding down and Tottenham want to hijack the situation. The 24-year-old has been on Spurs’ radar all season, but they’re finally preparing a bid to procure his signature.
Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider says Tottenham are lining up a bid for Gallagher before the June deadline. It remains to be seen if the England international would join Chelsea’s fierce rivals, but he could depart Stamford Bridge.
How much would Gallagher cost?
O’Rourke says Gallagher has a £50m asking price, though that figure will drop as his contract is expiring. The 24-year-old has less than 18 months remaining on his deal and isn’t close to signing an extension. Chelsea would prefer to cash in than lose Gallagher for nothing next year, so Spurs might get him cheaper.
O’Rourke says the Lilywhites are lining up a £30m-£40m bid for the midfielder, but time will tell if it’s accepted. Spurs have Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Oliver Skipp, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur, but only Bissouma and Sarr has been regulars due to an injury crisis.
Could Gallagher leave Chelsea?
Despite being an academy graduate who rose through the youth ranks, Gallagher may indeed leave Chelsea. He’s involved in a contract dispute that doesn’t look likely to be resolved. Gallagher has requested £150k-per-week to sign a new deal, but Chelsea are unwilling to match that figure.
Gallagher has made 84 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, scoring seven goals with eight assists. He’s impressed as a regular at Stamford Bridge but is running his contract down as his demands aren’t being met. As things stand, Gallagher will leave Chelsea. It just remains to be seen whether it’s this summer or next, for a transfer fee or free transfer.
Chelsea are trying to make money back after Todd Boehly’s drastic overspend, so they’ll want something for Gallagher.
