Chelsea travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United in the Premier League on Sunday evening. The Blues are favourites to pick up all three points given the contrasting form between the two sides.
Chelsea could consolidate their top-half spot in the table while Sheff Utd hope to close the gap to 19th-placed Burnley. Chelsea are coming off the back of a six-game unbeaten run in the league while United haven’t won since February.
Chelsea inconsistent on the road
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are 9th in the league with 43 points from 29 games this season. Chelsea are coming off the back of fine form, boasting three wins and three draws from their last six outings. The Blues have taken points off Manchester City, Newcastle United and Manchester United, so they’re no slouches.
Chelsea haven’t been as consistent on the road, however, dropping points in three of their last four away games. Pochettino’s men have managed only two wins on the road since November, so they’re overdue a result. Chelsea beat Sheffield United 2-0 when the two sides met at Stamford Bridge, so they’ll hope to repeat the feat.
Sheff Utd can’t stop the rot
United are bottom of the table with 15 points from 30 games, having won just three times all season. No side have lost more matches (21), conceded more goals (80) or scored fewer times (28) than the Blades. Sheff Utd have the worst home record in the league too, winning only twice, so it’s barely an advantage being at Bramall Lane.
Chris Wilder’s side haven’t managed a win, home or away, since February. They come into their meeting with Chelsea off the back of four defeats and two draws. On home soil, United have been thrashed 5-0 by Aston Villa, 5-0 by Brighton and 6-0 by Arsenal of late. The Blades are big underdogs, so Chelsea should be confident of picking up all three points.
