Chelsea travel to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are in fantastic form in recent weeks and could make it four consecutive Premier League wins if they come out on top.
Brighton won’t want to end the season in the bottom-half, so they need to pick up some points in their next two games. The Seagulls haven’t been in great form of late, however, so they’ll be underdogs against Chelsea, even with home advantage.
Chelsea ending the campaign strongly
Chelsea are 7th in the league with 57 points from 36 games this season, coming off the back of three consecutive wins. Mauricio Pochettino’s men beat Tottenham, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, so they’re in great shape. Chelsea beat Brighton 1-0 in September’s meeting, so they could do the double over Albion.
The Blues have look more human on the road, however, winning only one of their last six away games. Chelsea have only lost once in that time, so they’re picking up points without blowing teams away. Pochettino’s side have taken points off Manchester City and Aston Villa on the road, so they’re no slouches.
Brighton have been inconsistent
Brighton are 10th in the league table with 48 points from 36 games, coming off the back of one win and one draw from their last two. The Seagulls beat Villa and drew to Newcastle, but they’ve only managed one league victory since mid-March.
And while Brighton have home advantage against Chelsea, they’ve lost two of their last three at the Amex. Albion have conceded seven goals in those three games, scoring only once at the other end. Brighton boasted a 14-game unbeaten home run before April but are vulnerable now.
Match Prediction – Brighton 0-1 Chelsea
Chelsea won’t underestimate Brighton at the Amex, but they are in much better form.
Chelsea want to finish in the top-six of the table to secure European football, so they have greater motivation to win.
The Blues could well edge this game, but they’ll be made to work for it.
