Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1 in their final game of the season to finish 6th in the Premier League table. The Blues sealed a Europa League spot against all odds after spending most of the campaign in mid-table.
Mauricio Pochettino was previously under pressure after struggling to get consistency from the squad, but he’s turned things around. Chelsea hit some form in 2024 while reaching a domestic cup final, so it’s been a good season.
Chelsea finished above Man Utd
Chelsea finished 6th in the table with 63 points, coming off the back of five consecutive wins. The Blues lost only one of their last 15 games and lost only one of their last 13 at home.
Chelsea spent most of the season below Manchester United in the table and were ridiculed for it. But they’ve ended up toppling the Red Devils at the death and should be commended. Chelsea beat United in April’s seven-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge too.
At the end of 2023, Chelsea were 10th and five points adrift of the top-six with one extra game played. They averaged 1.4 points per game in the first half of the campaign, compared to 1.9 in 2024. Chelsea would be 4th if the season began in the new year.
Impressed in cup competitions
Chelsea were outstanding in the league after waving goodbye to 2023, and they impressed in the cups too.
The Blues beat AFC Wimbledon, Brighton & Hove Albion, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough to reach the League Cup final. Chelsea would lose 1-0 to Liverpool in late-February, however.
Chelsea also did well in the FA Cup before their elimination too. They beat Preston North End, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Leicester City to reach the semi-final. Pochettino’s men would lose 1-0 to Manchester City, however. They’ve been to Wembley twice this season but didn’t manage to win.
Chelsea reached one cup final and will play European football in 2024/25, so they’re not in bad shape.
