Chelsea have scored 70 goals in 35 Premier League games this season but are still looking to strengthen their attack. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have shared 36 goals and 16 assists, but Mauricio Pochettino wants another goalscorer.
According to Miguel Angel de Miguel Casas of Fichajes, Chelsea are interested in Serhou Guirassy. The 28-year-old joined VfB Stuttgart permanently last summer and has been prolific in his debut season. Stuttgart landed themselves a bargain signing Guirassy for €9m (£7.7m) and could make a profit if they cash in.
Who is Guirassy?
The Guinean international initially joined Stuttgart on loan from Stade Rennais in 2022 and scored 12 goals in 24 Bundesliga games. Guirassy made his stay at the MPHArena permanent and bagged 28 goals in as many Bundesliga outings.
His form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Chelsea among many clubs showing an interest. The Blues don’t have a reliable backup striker to Jackson, so Guirassy could be ideal if he’s affordable.
Stuttgart have him tied down until 2026, so they won’t let him go easily. Guirassy’s antics has Die Roten sitting third in the table, but they’re someway off Bayer Leverkusen at the summit. That might be his ceiling at Stuttgart, so a move to a bigger club in Europe would make sense.
Chelsea haven’t had a great season but could seal Europa League football if they finish in the top-six. They’ve been to Wembley twice too, reaching the League Cup final, so Pochettino’s men have potential.
How much will he set back Chelsea?
Reports suggest Guirassy has a €20m (£17.1m) release clause, so he wouldn’t break the bank for Chelsea. The 28-year-old is believed to take home €2m-a-year/€40k-per-week (£1.7m-a-year/£34k-per-week) in wages, so he’s more than affordable.
Chelsea are sure to have some competition for his signature this summer, let alone resistance from Stuttgart, but he could be a shrewd signing. The Blues will also have multiple targets on their shortlist, so Guirassy won’t be the only player they put feelers out for.
