Chelsea welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Thursday evening – a fixture the Blues haven’t lost since 2018. Mauricio Pochettino’s men thrashed Tottenham 4-1 in November, so they have opportunity to do the double over their rivals this season.
Chelsea aren’t in the best form of late, however, so a win won’t come easy. They’ve dropped points too often in recent weeks, so Tottenham could be a challenge. That being said, Spurs aren’t in great shape either, with Ange Postecoglou’s side coming off the back of consecutive defeats.
Chelsea have a superior head-to-head record, boasting seven wins from their last nine meetings in all competitions, so history is on their side. On home soil, the Blues have lost just once to Tottenham since the Premier League’s inception, so they tend to deliver regardless.
Chelsea strong at home
Chelsea are 9th in the league with 48 points from 33 games this season. They’re coming off the back of poor form, however, with the Blues dropping points in eight of their last 12 outings. Pochettino’s men have lost to Wolves, drawn to Brentford, drawn to Burnley, and drawn to Sheffield United in recent months, so they’re vulnerable.
Chelsea with home advantage is a different story, however, with a 4-3 win over Manchester United and 6-0 win over Everton preceding Thursday’s clash. Chelsea have lost just once at home since October 2023, so Tottenham may be fearing the worst.
Tottenham have been struggling
Spurs are 5th in the table with 60 points from 33 games, coming off the back of defeats to Newcastle United and Arsenal. Tottenham have dropped points in four of their last six games, so they come into a difficult fixture in bad shape.
Away from home, the Lilywhites have managed only one win in 2024. They’ve lost two and drawn one of their last three on the road ahead of the Chelsea meeting. Add that to their historically bad head-to-head record with Chelsea in West London, and a home win looks on the cards.
