Chelsea welcome West Ham United to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and are favourites to come out on top.
Chelsea could go level on points with 7th-placed Manchester United while closing the gap to 6th-placed Newcastle United with a win.
West Ham could overtake the Blues if they win at Stamford Bridge, but they’re not in good form and don’t have a great record in West London.
Chelsea lost 3-1 to West Ham in August but haven’t lost at home to the Hammers in five years. They’ve only lost once at home to West Ham since 2002, so the history books suggest a win for the Blues.
Chelsea in fine form
Chelsea are 8th in the league table with 51 points from 34 games, coming off the back of a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have beaten Manchester United, thrashed Everton, drawn to Aston Villa and beaten Spurs in recent weeks, so they’re in great shape.
Chelsea have been formidable on home soil too, boasting four wins and a draw from their last five, so West Ham have their work cut out. Chelsea have lost only once at Stamford Bridge since October 2023, so they’ll fancy their chances of a result.
The Blues have taken points off Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd and Spurs with home advantage this season.
West Ham inconsistent of late
West Ham are 9th in the table with 49 points from 35 games but haven’t been in the best form of late. The Hammers drew 2-2 with Liverpool recently but are without a win in five games in all competitions.
David Moyes’ men have really struggled on the road too, losing four of their last six away games, so they’re big underdogs this weekend. West Ham have won only two away games in 2024, so it’s hard to see them pulling off an upset.
West Ham beat Chelsea earlier in the season, but revenge looks on the cards.
