Enzo Maresca has given an injury update on Cole Palmer ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 22-year-old picked up a knock in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League win over Servette and was a doubt against Wolves.
Maresca says Palmer should be “fine” to feature against the Old Gold, however, as the knock wasn’t serious.
Palmer unlikely to miss Wolves clash
As per Goal, Maresca said in a pre-match press conference: “Cole, he felt something but he looks fine. They have already checked him. He looks fine, he is okay. Hopefully there is no problem and he can be involved in Sunday’s game.”
Palmer made 48 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 27 goals with 15 assists. The England international had a dream debut campaign at Stamford Bridge and is key to their future success.
Palmer played 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City and 32 minutes against Servette. He failed to score or make an assist in either game but will be an important player under Maresca. No one in the squad scored more league goals or made more assists than the Englishman.
Great news for Chelsea
Chelsea lost twice to Wolves last season, so they’ll be desperate to get a result this time round. Having Palmer in the side gives the Blues a greater chance of coming out on top. He missed only two goals in all competitions in 2023/24.
The 22-year-old popped up with key goals last season. He scored a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Manchester United. He netted four goals in Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton. He had two goal contributions in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City. And he scored twice in the EFL Cup semi-final win over Middlesbrough.
Palmer had goal contributions for England in their Euro 2024 semi-final and final too. Chelsea are favourites to win against Wolves and will fancy their chances even more with Palmer in the squad.
