Chelsea travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday, August 25. The Blues will be desperate for a win after losing their opening to Manchester City. Wolves also suffered defeat in their first game of the new season, so Gary O’Neil will expect a response from his side.
Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer, so Enzo Maresca doesn’t know his best XI yet. That being said, the Blues will be favourites to win in the Midlands and certainly have the quality to deliver. Wolves did the double over Chelsea last season, so revenge will be on the brain.
Wolves have been disappointing in 2024
Wolves have had a poor start to the new campaign, but they’re actually following on from last season. O’Neil’s men have been atrocious in 2024, suffering 10 defeats and drawing three times from 18 games. They finished 14th with 46 points in 2023/24. They lost 2-0 to Arsenal in their opener.
Wolves have managed only one win from their last 11 league outings, so they’re major underdogs. The Old Gold have lost four of their previous five home games too, so Chelsea should be licking their lips. The Blues lost twice to Wolves last season, but it’s hard to see history repeating itself.
Chelsea starting again from last season
Chelsea ended last season strongly with a 6th-placed finish and five consecutive league wins, but they’re having to start again. The Blues have changed their manager, they’ve changed half their squad, and they’re still not finished.
Chelsea turned things around in the second half of last season, but they’ve had a bad start to this campaign. The Blues lost 2-0 at home to Man City and barely landed a punch on the champions. Chelsea have had a better 2024 than Wolves, so they’ll be expected to pick up all three points.
Wolves were a thorn in Chelsea’s side last season, however, so time will tell.
