Chelsea have been dealt a major blow in their attempts to sign Manchester United star Wayne Rooney. The striker was given an ultimatum by Jose Mourinho to go public in his desire to leave Old Trafford or stay with United. It seems that Rooney has chosen the latter. According to Sky Sports, he will not be giving a transfer request to United.
“One way or another he has to say ‘I want to leave’ or ‘I want to stay’.” – Mourinho
It seems that Rooney has been persuaded by the impressive support of the United faithful in the recent 0-0 draw on Monday. Despite constant speculation linking him with Chelsea, United fans were in full support of the 27-year-old throughout the match. He repaid their faith with an excellent performance, and he was one of the best players on the pitch.
Mourinho has suggested that Chelsea would have not tried to get Rooney if the player did not express an interest to join them. We all know the controversy and history surrounding Ashley Cole transfer to Chelsea after allegations of tapping up, and it seems that Mourinho has repeated the same.
“The person that started the story has to finish the story. For the good of everyone, it is time to finish the story.
“If you look at a manager like me, a club like us and the people who work at the club with me, we are not silly enough to try to get a player from a big club that doesn’t want to sell.
“We are not silly enough to try something if somebody didn’t start it.” – continued Mourinho.
The ball is now with Chelsea, and they should offer an extravagant amount of money in order to have any hope of signing Rooney. Despite having only two years left on his contract, it is becoming apparent that United will not consider any sale below £40 million.
Moyes, though, has been consistently stating that Rooney is not for sale, and he once again reiterated this statement after the Chelsea draw.
“We have said from day one [that he’s not for sale]. You keep asking me and it is difficult but the answer is the same as day one.” – Moyes
Especially after the United match, the Chelsea squad looks incredibly weak in the striking department. Now, we have to focus on other targets like Samuel Eto’o.
It seems Rooney started this just to influence or draw attention to himself, that has been his way, he did it couple of years ago to force an increment on his wage,as well as extended contract,he is doing it again this time to enforce his relevancy to the club.He is just a selfish and whining player,Chelsea should forget about him and sign another striker before it becomes too late. Rooney is just playing his usual game,Chelsea should have known the history of this guy before getting themselves involved.
He did similar thing even if not exactly with ManC just to get himself new contract and a ballooned wage couple of years back,so you guys should not be surprised if he Rooney is going nowhere, he has just or almost achieved his main objective that is to remain important and pampered by the club.If really he did wanted to depart from Manchester United,he knows how to go about it,he should have made his desires open by making it public or put in a transfer request but because he intends going nowhere, non of the two has he done and never will do!
