The quarter-final draw for the Capital One Cup 2013 has been made and Chelsea will face either Sunderland or Southampton away from home. Chelsea entered into the quarter-final draw after beating Arsenal 2-0 in the previous round.
In recent memory, most League Cup matches involving Chelsea were home ties that were played at Stamford Bridge. This season seems a little different, as we are yet to experience a home match. Sunderland or Southampton will be a difficult match. Sunderland recently got their first win under new manager Gus Poyet, while Southampton have been one of the surprise packages in the league this season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Southampton have conceded just three league goals and are fifth in the table.
Southampton and Sunderland will play on 6th November to decide the winner of the tie.
The matches will be played in the 2nd week of December.
Full quarter-final draw for the Capital One Cup 2013:
- Leicester v Manchester City
- Stoke v Manchester United
- Sunderland/Southampton v Chelsea
- Tottenham v West Ham
Both Manchester United and Manchester City have relatively easy ties, while Tottenham vs West Ham is the standout tie of the round.
