Chelsea had their four-game unbeaten run come to an end at the hands of Brentford on Saturday afternoon. Mauricio Pochettino’s men had the lion’s share of possession and chances at Stamford Bridge but not the efficiency.
Brentford put the Blues to the sword in West London with goals from Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo. It’s another home defeat for Pochettino and another defeat against the Bees, leaving them 11th in the table.
Chelsea missed opportunities in the first half

Chelsea came close to opening the scoring in the first half, with Noni Madueke hitting the crossbar from a curled effort while Marc Cucurella had a tame effort saved from close range, but the two sides went into the break level.
After the restart, it was Brentford who came closest, with Vitaly Janelt forcing a close-range save from a first-time effort. Chelsea didn’t heed the warning with balls coming into the box and Brentford punished them minutes later.
Mbeumo lofted a ball to the back post and Pinnock rose highest with more determination to head home. Chelsea came close to an equaliser, but Thiago Silva’s header across the goal failed to find a teammate.
And after Robert Sanchez went up for a corner late on, Brentford countered to double their advantage. Neal Maupay collected the ball from a clearance and held off Sanchez to set up Mbeumo for a tap-in.
Back to the drawing board for Pochettino

Chelsea were coming off the back of three wins and a draw from their last four games in all competitions. The Blues had beaten Brighton and drawn with Arsenal in their last two home games too. So with Brentford being winless in their last three away outings, Chelsea were big favourites.
Pochettino’s men have little time to lick their wounds, however, with an EFL Cup clash in three days. Chelsea host Blackburn Rovers who are coming off the back of three wins from their last four. Rovers have won their last two away games too, so the Blues can’t take the Championship outfit for granted.
