Nicolas Jackson had a hand in three goals as Chelsea put West Ham United to the sword, winning 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The 22-year-old scored twice and grabbed an assist to boost Chelsea’s hopes of a top-six finish in the Premier League table.
West Ham are only two places below Chelsea but looked miles off the pace at Stamford Bridge. The heavy defeat also placed pressure on David Moyes, whose position may be at risk after West Ham collapsed in May. United are six games without a win in all competitions.
Chelsea had a great first half
Chelsea took the lead in the 15th minute through Cole Palmer. Noni Madueke whipped in a cross that Nicolas Jackson couldn’t convert and Palmer tucked home the rebound. West Ham came close to equalising after hitting the post, but the Blues would double their lead after half an hour through Conor Gallagher.
Palmer found Madueke with a brilliant slide-rule pass, but he was tackled and the ball bounced to Gallagher in the area. The 24-year-old volleyed home from close range for 2-0.
And just minutes later, it was 3-0. Thiago Silva rose highest from a corner, heading home Madueke’s ball into the box to put the game beyond doubt before half-time. Conor Gallagher should have made it 4-0 before the break but hit the woodwork with a tap-in from the six-yard box.
West Ham had no answer
Just minutes after the restart, West Ham would find themselves 4-0 down.
Jackson scored his first goal of the game in the 48th minute, tapping home after Madueke unselfishly put it on a plate. Madueke beat the offside trap and was through on goal, but he decided to square the ball so Jackson had an open goal.
West Ham would hit the post again in the second half, showing their luck just wasn’t in that day. Chelsea wrapped up the scoring in the 80th minute through Jackson. He was put through on goal by Moises Caicedo and made no mistake with his one-on-one for 5-0.
