Chelsea ran away with it in the first half

Chelsea opened the scoring in the 15th minute through a Jonny Howson own goal. Armando Broja was going to convert a cutback from Raheem Sterling, but his effort was bundled in. And in the 29th minute, the Blues doubled their lead on the night and took the lead on aggregate. Enzo Fernández scored from inside the area after Broja’s shot landed in his path.
Axel Disasi played a part in Chelsea’s second goal, and he would go on to bag their third. He converted a cutback from Sterling and made no mistake from close range. Cole Palmer made it 4-0 minutes before the break, punishing Boro for trying to play out of the back.

Chelsea slowed things down in the second half but did add two more goals. Palmer bagged a brace with 13 minutes remaining, side-footing a cutback from Conor Gallagher. And Noni Madueke made it 6-0 minutes later, punishing Boro for being slack with their passing. He was picked out brilliantly by Gallagher and his effort was deflected in.
Chelsea couldn’t keep a clean sheet, however, with Middlesbrough getting a consolation effort in the dying minutes of the game. Morgan Rogers worked an opening down the left flank, cutting inside and finding the far corner. It finished 6-1.
