Javier Parra Pena of Fichajes says Chelsea are interested in Alphonso Davies and could put an offer to Bayern Munich. FourFourTwo and ESPN regard the 23-year-old as Europe’s best left-back, so the Blues are aiming big. Real Madrid are also keen on Davies, however, so a bidding war could commence for his signature.
Bayern paid £11m for the Canadian international in 2019 but were requesting €50m (£43m) in November 2023. Whether Chelsea can afford to match his asking price after switching their transfer policy remains to be seen. Club president Herbert Hainer says Davies won’t be sold by Bayern too, so they might take some convincing.
Chelsea have a problem at left-back

Mauricio Pochettino isn’t short of options with Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell, but he’s been down on luck.
Cucurella underwent surgery on an ankle injury and is currently sidelined for the foreseeable future. Chilwell has only just returned from a hamstring injury suffered in late-September, so he’s building up his match fitness.
Colwill is a natural centre-back, and Ian Maatsen was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund, so there is a void. Chelsea only have one natural left-back fit and he’d been injured for months, so it’s not their strongest position currently.
Why is Davies’ future at Bayern uncertain?

Davies is a regular at Bayern, featuring in 24 of their 25 games this season, but Pena says it’s complicated. Summer-signing Raphaël Guerreiro is threatening Davies’ position in the side, and there is contract uncertainty too.
The 23-year-old has 18 months remaining on his deal and could leave on a free transfer next year. Bayern won’t want to lose Davies for nothing, so they need to make progress on contract talks. If they fear he won’t commit beyond 2025, they might have to cash in to extract some value.
There’s no suggestion Davies wants to leave the Bundesliga champions, however, especially to join Chelsea, so time will tell. Clubs don’t tend to sell valuable assets in January as it’s hard to replace them, so Pena is being optimistic.
