Chelsea suffered their fourth consecutive away defeat in the Premier League on Sunday, losing 2-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Since thrashing Burnley 4-1 at Turf Moor in October and winning 4-1 at Tottenham in November, Mauricio Pochettino’s men collapsed.
The Blues have conceded two or more goals in each of their last four away games, scoring three times. What’s strange is their form has completely flipped from earlier on in the season. They boasted three consecutive away victories in October and November but can’t buy a win now.
Last four away PL games for Chelsea
- 25/11/23: Newcastle 4-1 Chelsea
- 6/12/23: Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
- 10/12/23: Everton 2-0 Chelsea
- 24/12/23: Wolves 2-1 Chelsea

The Blues sit 10th in the Premier League table, closer to the relegation zone (10 pts) than top-four (14 pts). They were 8th this time last season with 21 points from 14 games. Pochettino’s men only have one more point now despite playing four more matches, so the decline is clear to see.
They were made to pay for missed chances against Wolves. Raheem Sterling opted against squaring the ball for his teammate to have a tap-in when through on goal. He took the shot himself and saw his effort saved by Jose Sa, robbing them of taking the lead. In the second half, Christopher Nkunku had a shot cleared off the goalline, which would have been an equaliser.
Wolves scored their first goal from a corner and their second from a defensive mistake, but it was enough. Pochettino’s men next face Crystal Palace at home on Wednesday, December 27. Their next away game in the league is Luton Town on December 30.
It remains to be seen whether they can end their losing away run at Kenilworth Road, however. Luton recently beat Newcastle at home while giving Arsenal (3-4) and Manchester City (1-2) a run for their money.
