Chelsea welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon and will be desperate for a win after dropping points in their last two Premier League games.
Newcastle are in woeful form ahead of their weekend clash with the Blues, so they’ll be hoping for a performance too. Chelsea haven’t lost at home to Newcastle in any competition since 2012, so they’re big favourites to come out on top.
Chelsea inconsistent of late
Chelsea are 7th in the table with 14 points from eight games. The Blues are coming off the back of a Europa Conference League win over Panathinaikos but haven’t been consistent domestically.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by a 10-man Nottingham Forest in early-October and followed that up with a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool. The Blues have dropped points in three of their four home games in the league this season, so they have a point to prove.
A win could see Chelsea go 5th in the table and close the gap on the Champions League places.
Formbook and history going against Newcastle
Newcastle are 12th in the table with 12 points from eight games. The Magpies are coming off the back of awful form, failing to win their last four league outings, so they aren’t in great shape.
Newcastle lost at Fulham and drew at home to Manchester City in September, and they have since drawn at Everton while losing at home to Brighton & Hove Albion in October.
Newcastle don’t have a good head-to-head record against Chelsea either. The Magpies haven’t beaten Chelsea away in the league since May 2012. They have taken just one point off the Blues at Stamford Bridge in 12 years, so the history books point to another home win.
Newcastle could go above Chelsea in the table with a win, but the formbook suggests Enzo Maresca’s side will take all three points.
