Chelsea ended October on a low, bowing out of the League Cup at the hands of Newcastle United. This was just days after the Blues beat the Magpies at Stamford Bridge too, but they had no answer in the North-East.
Enzo Maresca made a number of changes to Chelsea’s starting XI while Newcastle sported a strong lineup, but it’s nevertheless a bad way to see out the month.
Chelsea ended September in fantastic form and were sitting 4th in the Premier League table. They were just two points adrift of unbeaten Liverpool and boasting the most goals scored.
- 1/9/24 (Premier League): Chelsea 1-1 Crystal Palace

- 21/9/24 (Premier League): West Ham 0-3 Chelsea
- 24/9/24 (League Cup): Chelsea 5-0 Barrow

Chelsea were unbeaten in September and dropped just two points, so they went into October on a high. Liverpool were the biggest opponents they’d face, so Chelsea hoped to rack up the points.
That didn’t happen, however, as the Blues failed to win three of their six games. They were knocked out of a competition and lost ground on the Premier League leaders.
- 3/10/24 (UEFA Conference League): Chelsea 4-2 Gent

Chelsea will be pleased to have a 100% record in the Conference League, so they still have Europe to cling on to. They’ll have two games in November and will be expected to make light work of their opposition.
Chelsea have a difficult month coming up with games against Manchester United (away on November 3) and Arsenal (home on November 10), so time will tell if they can turn their form around.
