With the pre-season about to start in two weeks, it has been a rather quiet off-season for Chelsea so far. No big money moves have been made while three players of the squad have been released. After winning the league title last season, a host of big names were mentioned as possible signings for this season including the likes of Torres and David Villa. Only Yossi Benayoun is now touted as the first signing Chelsea are going to make within a few days. Not exactly the kind of signing to take notice of. Will
Chelsea sign a player worthy of mentioning?
Mesut Ozil is the new player linking himself with a move to Chelsea after David Silva said the same a week ago. Silva ended up at Manchester City and I hope that Ozil doesn’t end up the same way because at 21 he is young at the same time is also experienced. With just one year left on his Werder Bremen contract, there is every possibility of signing him. He is exactly the kind of player who can play at the tip of the diamond in Ancelotti’s favourite formation, something he had to change mid-season due to the lack of natural players to play in that position.
Ozil, the star of Germany’s World Cup campaign recently said,
It is clear that he wants a move and there is no reason why Chelsea should try and sign him.
Deco is in line to be the next player to be released after he revealed that he has an agreement with the Brazilian Club, Fluminense. Although he is not a first team member of the squad, allowing him to leave when no signings have been made will weaken the squad even further.
How Chelsea are going to put up a defence for the title this season without strengthening the squad is the million dollar question right now. I for one am really worried. Are you?
