Chelsea will look to continue their resurgence under Liam Rosenior when they welcome Burnley to Stamford Bridge for Saturday’s Premier League gameweek 27 clash.
The Blues head into the weekend in positive spirits after a comfortable 4-0 victory over Hull City in the FA Cup fourth round. That response came after a frustrating 2-2 league draw with Leeds United, and Rosenior’s side — currently fifth in the Premier League table — will be keen to build momentum.
Burnley, however, arrive in London with confidence of their own. The Clarets stunned Crystal Palace 3-2 last week despite trailing 2-0, and Scott Parker’s men will be aiming to secure back-to-back wins in the capital.
Despite Chelsea’s overall dominance in recent meetings, the Blues have failed to beat Burnley in consecutive home matches, offering the visitors some encouragement. However, Burnley have not defeated Chelsea since August 2017.
Chelsea Injury Update
Chelsea’s injury list remains lengthy heading into the weekend.
Marc Cucurella is ruled out with a hamstring injury sustained against Leeds. The Spaniard was substituted at half-time and is expected to miss several weeks, although the club continues to assess the extent of the damage.
Levi Colwill remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury suffered before the start of the 2025–26 season. While progress has been positive, there is no confirmed return date.
Rosenior recently said:
“Yes, he could [be back before the end of the season], but it’s step by step, and I don’t want to make promises that I can’t keep. At the moment, Levi is in a really good place. He’s on the right track, but I don’t want to put pressure on him.”
Romeo Lavia has returned to training after a thigh injury that has kept him out since November. The midfielder is not expected to feature this weekend, with the club carefully managing his comeback.
“He has been on the training pitch with us in the last two days, which has been great to see. As I’ve said before, we have to make sure that when he’s back, he’s back for good.”
Dario Essugo remains unavailable following a thigh setback and is unlikely to return before March.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is facing a longer spell out after suffering a hamstring tear. The winger could be sidelined for months.
“It’s a real shame for him… he’s got a tear in his hamstring. Too early to say [how long].”
Filip Jorgensen is a major doubt. The backup goalkeeper is close to full fitness but may not be ready in time for Burnley.
“He’s close. He’s close to being fit and hopefully it’ll be either Arsenal or the game after this.”
Additionally, Mykhailo Mudryk remains unavailable due to suspension.
What to Expect
Chelsea are likely to control possession at Stamford Bridge, but Burnley’s resilience was on display at Selhurst Park last weekend. The Clarets showed character to overturn a two-goal deficit and will not arrive intimidated.
For the Blues, the focus will be on consistency. A win would strengthen their hold on a top-five position and reinforce the progress made under Rosenior.
With Stamford Bridge behind them and confidence restored following the FA Cup win, Chelsea will expect to take all three points — but they cannot afford complacency.
Kick-off is set for Saturday at Stamford Bridge as the Blues aim to keep their resurgence firmly on track.
