Chelsea suffered their third consecutive away defeat in the Premier League on Sunday, losing 2-0 at Everton. Goals from Abdoulaye Doucouré and Lewis Dobbin put Chelsea to the sword at Goodison Park, leaving them in 12th place.
Chelsea boasted three consecutive away victories before the defeats started rolling in, and now Mauricio Pochettino can’t arrest the slide. The Blues are now closer to the relegation zone than the top-five, so what went wrong on Merseyside?
Chelsea faded after the break

Chelsea spurned opportunities to take the lead in the first half through Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer. Fernandez saw a close-range effort saved before putting the rebound wide of the post. Palmer forced a brilliant save from Jordan Pickford after a long-range effort.
Everton had one notable chance at the other end, with Jack Harrison volleying a fierce effort just wide. Things improved after the restart, however. Everton came close after the break with Dwight McNeil finding the bottom corner, but Robert Sanchez saved it.
McNeil would be instrumental to Everton taking the lead, however, when he burst down the left flank unchallenged. He slipped in Dominic Calvert-Lewin whose chance was saved, then Abdoulaye Doucouré fired home the rebound.
Everton doubled their lead late in the game when Lewis Dobbin volleyed in from the edge of the box. Chelsea failed to correctly clear their lines and Dobbin was unmarked in the area.
An historically bad fixture for Chelsea

Everton have an impressive head-to-head record at home to Chelsea, boasting five wins from their last six meetings. Not only that, the Toffees have kept clean sheets in four of those games. That has been a difficult fixture for Chelsea regardless of their form and squad.
Everton have now taken points off the Blues in both games this year – drawing 2-2 in March, winning 2-0 in December. Chelsea have now lost three of their last four league games overall and have more defeats than all but five clubs.
