Gary Cahill, who has performed admirably in recent weeks, is a doubt for the weekend’s FA Cup clash with Manchester City at the Etihad stadium. The defender suffered an injury in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with West Brom.
He appeared to be heavy discomfort in the final 10 minutes of the match, but Jose Mourinho was unable to take him off after having made all his three substitutions. Cahill said after the match:
Once I got the knock, I was struggling from then on. It happened when a West Brom player went for a header and I was on the floor.
He landed just inside my knee/calf. It is sore and we’ll see what it’s like today.
This could be a potential problem for Mourinho ahead of the City match since John Terry missed the West Brom encounter after having failed to recover from his injury. If both players are unavailable, it could mean Branislav Ivanovic switching back to central defence to partner David Luiz, who was at fault for allowing Victor Anichebe to score the 87th minute equaliser.
