Chelsea recently completed the £28 million signing of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, and José Mourinho says that the Spaniard is the type of player Chelsea need right now.
Chelsea wasted no time concluding negotiations for Fabregas after deciding not to extend the contract of legend Frank Lampard. Even though Lampard was not a regular first choice last season, replacing a player of his quality will never be easy.
Mourinho, though, reckons that Fabregas can do this job due to his vast experience of the Premier League. He said:
“He is the kind of player we need. Not just for his qualities as a player but also his competitive personality.
“He is a player in the best years of his career – 26, 27, 28. He knows England well, he knows the Premiership well, so he will not need time to adapt.
“I think he is the kind of player who will come and train for a couple of weeks and be ready to prove himself.”
A player with intense Arsenal connection, Fabregas has been involved in several bust ups with Chelsea and Chelsea players over the years. Being a professional, he is likely to get his 100% to the club. He signed five-year contract that will see him play for Chelsea until the age of 32.
Only time will tell if he would be a success at Chelsea or not, but £30 million for a 27-year-old player, who was one of the Premier League’s best, is a very good deal.
Chelsea are also expected to complete the signings of Diego Costa in the next few weeks. Fabregas will wear the No 4 shirt at Chelsea.
