José Mourinho set an incredible standard for himself by winning the league title in his first season at Chelsea. However, the 50-year-old has said that it will be difficult match this achievement in his second spell at the club. It has been four years since Chelsea last lifted the league title. Even though the club may have won numerous trophies including the Champions League and the Europa League on European fronts, the likes of Manchester United still dominate the domestic front.
It may be perceived as a little easier to win the league title especially with Sir Alex Ferguson gone from United, but Mourinho thinks that it will be highly difficult to get the team to the fourth Premier league title.
“These ‘kids’ – and I say that respectfully – have big potential and big space for improvement. They’ve not reached their best level yet.” – Mourinho
Chelsea are now 13/2 with Paddy Power to win two trophies next season, which is a great odd considering that the club has won 12 trophies during the Abramovich era. Mourinho’s reasoning behind the league title being difficult to win in the coming season is based on the fact that the squad is relatively young.
The addition of players like Romelu Lukaku is going to bring down the age of the squad even more. Inconsistency is one of the problems that come with a young squad, but Mourinho reckons that this team has the capability to keep on improving.
“When you have this profile, you can’t think the best will come next year. It has to come in two, three, four, five, six years’ time.” – Mourinho.
Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City are in with a shout for the Premier League title in the 2013/14 season according to the latest Premier league football odds. The threat from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham should also not be discounted.
Mourinho seems to be underplaying the chances of Chelsea winning the league in the2013/14 season, as the squad seems to be only a couple of players away from lifting the Championship.
