Mykhailo Mudryk is doubtful ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Luton Town after picking up a knock against Crystal Palace. Chelsea travel to Kenilworth Road to face the newly promoted Hatters on Saturday, but Mauricio Pochettino is losing players to injury.
The Blues enjoyed a 2-1 win over the Eagles on Wednesday, but Mudryk suffered an ankle injury near the end. He was spotted with an ice pack after the game, so time will tell if he’s fit enough for Luton. Pochettino said in Friday’s pre-match press conference: “We need to assess Mudryk.”
Mudryk showing promise of late

It will be a blow if Mudryk misses out on Saturday, as he impressed for Chelsea in the week. The 22-year-old broke the deadlock early on against Palace and would surely keep his place if fit. Mudryk has missed only two Premier League games this season, so he’s having a greater impact than 2022/23.
The Ukraine international has scored four goals with two assists from 19 games across the board. He’s been inconsistent, as have the rest of the Chelsea squad, but is showing promise. Mudryk can improve, as he’s 8th in the squad for chances created and 4th for dribbles, but he has potential.
Chelsea having no luck with injuries

Mudryk is a doubt ahead of their Luton clash, but so is Romeo Lavia. Pochettino said the central midfielder also picked up a knock against Palace and is unlikely to feature at Kenilworth Road.
Chelsea have struggled to keep a squad fit this season, and their bad luck shows no signs of dissipating. Pochettino still has Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Ben Chilwell, Enzo Fernandez, Trevoh Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka sidelined with injury. Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer missed Chelsea’s last game due to suspension but will return to face Luton.
The growing injury list has meant Pochettino hasn’t been able to name the same starting XI for multiple games. It’s led to inconsistent results on the pitch, so the Blues manager will hope Mudryk isn’t out for long.
