José Mourinho has admitted that Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, but he is not sure whether a deal will be completed. Fabregas will be allowed to leave Barcelona when the transfer window opens on July 1.
Chelsea are not alone in the race to sign the former Arsenal man, as Manchester City and Manchester United are also monitoring the situation. Arsenal have rejected the opportunity to buy him back. The gunners had the first refusal on him. Now he is free to join any club that is willing to pay £29 million.
Fernando Torres recently expressed his desire to see Fabregas at Chelsea. Mourinho says that Chelsea will look into the possibility of signing the 27-year-old. However, he does not think that any transfer will be completed before the World Cup. He said:
“I am interested in studying Fabregas’ situation. I think he is anxious to leave Barcelona and motivated to return to England. I think that is clear.”
“Whether he is going to sign for Chelsea or for another club, that is not a subject to be discussed today, tomorrow or before the World Cup.”
After allowing Frank Lampard to leave the club after 13 years, Chelsea are in the market for a new midfielder. This is also in tandem with the expected departure of John obi Mikel, who is linked with Inter Milan.
David Luiz, Samuel Eto’o, Lampard, and Ashley Cole have left the club this summer.
Spanish tabloid Marca reports that Chelsea and United are willing to pay £200,000 per week in wages, which is slightly higher than the offer from City.
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, who is well-connected with Barcelona players, stated that Fabregas to Chelsea is not a done deal despite several reports. However, he says that talks are going on between the two parties.
Cesc hasnt got a deal with Chelsea, it doesnt matter what Pique or others say. Not yet. Conversations taking place but NO DEAL YET. Not yet
