José Mourinho has asked Spanish international Diego Costa, who is expected to be Chelsea’s big signing in the summer, to stay clear of injuries during the World Cup 2014. Chelsea are believed to have bagged the 25-year-old for £32 million. The deal is yet to be announced officially, but both Mourinho and Costa have stated recently that it is most likely to go through.
Mourinho, who is Yahoo’s ambassador for the World Cup, said that he is hoping that Costa will prove to be a fantastic signing for Chelsea. He said:
“I hope [Costa] has a normal World Cup, no injuries, good holidays and I hope next season he can have a fantastic season. I don’t know where, but I hope he can have a fantastic season next season.”
Mourinho also said that Costa looks like being a Chelsea player. Just like the striker, “well, it looks like it” was Mourinho’s response when asked about the status of the transfer.
The blues are looking to conclude the transfer negotiations before the World Cup. Aside from Costa, it looks like Cesc Fabregas is on the verge of becoming a Chelsea player. Chelsea have also been linked with the likes of Filipe Luis and Thiago – both from Atletico Madrid.
This coupled with a number of returning loan players like Romelu Lukaku, Victor Moses, Kurt Zouma, and Patrik Bamford should provide enough strength and depth to cope with the numerous exits that have taken place in the last few weeks.
Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, and Samuel Eto’o are some of the major names released, while David Luiz has been sold for £50 million.
