Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Kurt Zouma from French club St. Etienne. Zouma has been linked with Chelsea for a few months now and the club – fresh with the cash from Juan Mata’s sale – has decided to take the plunge in the 19-year-old. He has signed a five-and-a-half year contract with the club.
Zouma is regarded as one of the talented youngsters around. He is definitely one for the future and the club has decided to allow him to spend the rest of the season at St. Etienne. The club confirmed the deal in following statement:
Chelsea Football Club has today (Friday) signed Kurt Zouma from St. Etienne. He will remain on loan at the French club for the rest of the season.
He is said to have cost £12.5 million with a further £2.5 million in bonuses depending on his performances. The fee is slightly higher for a 19-year-old, but he is one of the bright prospects around. It would be interesting to see if he starts competing for a first-team spot from next season itself.
Whether he becomes the ‘next John Terry’ or ‘next Jeffrey Bruma’ remains to be seen.
